Website launch checklist: what to check before publishing

Launching a website means more than publishing files on a server. Before sending people to the new address, check that pages load, information is correct and important actions work.

A simple checklist reduces the risk of visible errors and gives you a stronger starting point for improvements after launch.

Check pages and navigation

Go through the website like a new visitor and follow the path to the main information. The menu, logo, buttons and links should all lead to the correct destinations.

  • all main pages open
  • the menu works on desktop and mobile
  • internal links do not lead to missing pages
  • the logo links to the homepage
  • the 404 page offers a way back

Test forms and contact details

Submit forms with test data and confirm that the message reaches the right place. Check what the visitor sees after submitting: a clear message, a confirmation page or the next step in the process.

  • contact form
  • email addresses and phone numbers
  • contact and WhatsApp buttons
  • error and confirmation messages
  • privacy policy and required consent

Check the website on mobile

Many visitors may reach the website from a phone. Test the menu, buttons, forms and images on small screens. Text should be readable and interactive elements easy to tap.

It is also useful to check page speed on a mobile connection, not only under ideal desktop conditions.

Correct content before launch

Text errors affect trust and can make the website harder to understand. Review headings, service descriptions, contact details and company information.

  • consistent headings and subheadings
  • correct spelling and phrasing
  • updated prices, addresses and details
  • images with alternative text
  • consistent terminology across pages

Complete a basic SEO check

Before publishing, every important page should have a relevant title and description. Check that pages which should be found can be indexed, that the sitemap is available and that services and articles link to each other.

For a stronger technical foundation, review the maintenance and optimization service, which can include performance, SEO and functionality checks after launch.

Check images and visual elements

Images should be clear, properly sized and compressed for the web. Confirm that there are no missing images, unexpected empty spaces or elements that overflow on mobile.

Prepare monitoring after launch

After publishing, watch for errors in Search Console, form messages and access to important pages. Save a backup before major changes and note what you want to improve later.

Launch is the start, not the last review

A website changes as the business changes. Content, speed, security and mobile experience should be reviewed regularly. With a careful launch, future improvements can be based on data and real feedback.
