How to choose the right website structure

A website structure is the way pages, navigation and important information are organized. When it is clear, visitors find answers faster and reach the intended action more easily.

The right structure starts with the goals of the business, not with the number of pages you want to publish.

Start with the purpose of the website

Before deciding on the menu, clarify the role of the website. Do you want to present services, receive quote requests, sell products or explain a complex process? The answer influences every page that follows.

  • presentation website for services and essential information
  • landing page for an offer or campaign
  • online store for products and orders
  • web application for processes and custom features

Which pages do you need?

A presentation website can start with a small number of pages if every page has a clear role. You do not need to split information into more pages just to create a longer menu.

  • Home: quickly explains what you offer and who it is for
  • Services: presents solutions in clear language
  • About: provides context and builds trust
  • Projects or results: shows concrete examples
  • Contact: makes the next step easy

How should you organize the menu?

The menu should reflect the way people look for information. Use familiar names and keep the most important options visible.

If you offer several services, group them under one section with dedicated pages for each. The menu stays simple while each page can answer a more specific search intent.

The structure must work on mobile too

On a phone, space is limited and every step matters. The menu, headings and buttons must be easy to understand and use without zooming or unnecessary scrolling.

A good structure is tested on small screens before launch, not only on desktop.

When should you simplify?

If visitors do not know where to go, pages repeat the same information or important details are hidden, the structure needs a review. Sometimes removing one page and reorganizing the content solves more than adding new sections.

Start with the main journey: what should a visitor understand, what proof do they need and what is the next step?
